Ships build under the Merchant Marine Act of 1936


E.Kirby Smith outside Hampton Roads on March 17th 1956 after she was rammed by Nyland. Owned by U.S.Department of Commerce and operated by Stockard Steamship Co.under Maritime Administration Service Agreent Form GAA (General Agent Agreement). At this time the vessel was participate in the Grain Program and was withdrawn from Reserve Fleet one day before and was on her way to Baltimore under tow for discharging garin.
